Internet, Computer Repair & Web Services

Information about Internet avaialablity, computer service and web design in the Bragg Creek area.

Internet Service Providers - High Speed

The Bragg Creek area has a number of internet service providers. We need them! The area is difficult to service and one solution doesn't work everywhere.

We love our rural area, our trees and hills but these are the factors which make internet service problematic. We hope the following section will provide information that may help residents find a solution that works where they live.

Davinci Broadband - 403-931-6730 - www.davincibroadband.com

Davinci offers wireless broadband service in the Bragg Creek, West Bragg Creek, 762 area and east of Bragg Creek to South Calgary areas. See their web site for service  areas. Even in these service areas, reception may or may not work depending on the hills and trees. They will generally have to check your site to ensure they can provide service. They don't service Redwood Meadows or Wintergreen.

As of this writing, May 2010, Davinci charges ~$500 setup and $60 per month for basic residential services, which include 10GB/month, unlimited hours and 3 emails.

Davinci is a local provider and supports the community with sponsorships and community donations.

Telus - 403-310-4638 - www.telus.com

Telus provides DSL service within ~4km of the Telus Central Office in Bragg Creek for the 949 exchange. We don't currently have details of availablity in the 931 exchange.  DSL doesn't work in Wintergreen, Redwood Meadows or areas outside ~4km from the center of Bragg Creek.

Telus' rate plans, deals and bundles change constantly. As of this writing, May 2010, they have 2 services available. A Lite service with 256Kbs download speed, up to 128Kbs upload speed, 10GB/month traffic and 1 email account for ~$25/month. A High Speed service with  1.5 to 6 Mbs download, up to 1 Mbs upload, 60GB/month traffic and 10 email accounts for ~$35/month.

Eastlink Cable - 888-345-1111 - www.eastlink.ca

Eastlink Cable, formerly Persona, is the cable company in Redwood Meadows. Eastlink provides high speed internet service in addition to cable TV. As of this writing, May 2010, there are reports that Eastlink's service in Redwood Meadows is at capacity and they are not adding new customers. Redwood Meadows residents should contact Eastlink.

Eastlink offers a Lite (256Kbs/128Kbs), Internet 2 (2Mbs/384Kbs), Internet 5 (5Mbs/640Kbs) and Internet 15 (15Mbs/1Mbs) packages. Not all of these may be avaialble in Redwood Meadows. Their web site does not provide pricing information.

Rogers Wireless - 888-764-3771 - www.rogers.com

Cellular phone service is problematic in our area too. If you do have Rogers service, high speed wireless may be available to you. Rogers offers a Rocket Hub. This device provides an ethernet port (may be 4) and wi-fi service similar to many DSL or cable routers. Rogers indicates you can connect up to 10 computers.

The Rocket Hub can run at speeds up to 7.2Mbs. Rogers has package plans. The Hub can cost up to $400 but would be less in a term contract. Monthly service varies but Rogers has a flex rate plan up to 3GB/month for $35, up to 5GB/Month for $45 and up to 10GB/Month for $60.

Telus Mobility - 403-387-5825 - www.telus.com

Telus also provides wireless service. Telus, at this writing, only has a wireless USB stick that would work with one computer. Telus' pricing is, as of May 2010, more expensive than Rogers.

Xplornet - Contact Dealers - www.xplornet.com

Xplornet, in our area, utilizes satellite technology to deliver high speed internet. What's required is an unobstructed view of the southern sky (probably similar to satellite TV). The service requires an outdoor dish and an indoor satellite modem. A May 2010 special showed an equipment cost of $99. There was no mention of installation charges. Check with a dealer

There are a number of different options. The Home Lite package is 512Kbs/128Kbs a special price in May 2010 was $50/month. The Home Basic package is 1Mbs/128Kbs at a special price in May 2010 of $60/month. Other packages are available.

Satellite has some latency, so someone interested in this solution might want to see a demo.

Internet Service Providers - Dial

There are a number of ISP's who can provide dial-up services. Telus can bundle this service as part of the phone bill. There are a number of other suppliers with Calgary numbers.
