From The Desk Of BCCA President
President’s Report - October 30, 2008
Annual General Meeting
I want to begin by saying that it’s been a momentous year! It’s a new Board, it’s a fresh vision and we’re moving forward. We are also improving upon the great events you’ve come to expect from the BCCA in the past.
2008 was a year in which the learning curve was steep for many of us. We all appreciate the help and direction from the more seasoned Board members – and like in any successful company, the President surrounds him/herself with highly talented and dedicated people, which is truly evident here in the BCCA!
Being new to the position and Board, one of the most profound realizations for myself was the exceptional level of volunteerism here in Bragg Creek. Volunteers, both young and old, are and were prepared to take on any and all tasks which needed fulfilling.
It’s heartening to know that any one of us here at the BCCA can pick up the phone and have a group of people ready and eager to help out any way they can. That is the true backbone of our community. For that I truly thank you!
We are very excited about what’s to come in the next year at the BCCA, but we also need to celebrate all the many accomplishments of this past year. They were:
List of a few events – BCCA 2007/08
Halloween Dances
George Canyon Concert
Christmas in the Creek Market
Christmas in the Creek Family Festival
Adult Spring Dance
Black & White Ball
Easter Pancake Breakfast
Camp Rivendell
Bragg Creek Days
Craft & Cappuccino
St. Paddy’s Dances
Rememberance Day Service
Beach Party Dances
Movie Night featuring “Elf”
And finally the: 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the BCCA, which I and everyone in Bragg Creek, I think I speak for the community here, are very proud of. To see our diverse past displayed so grandly, it’s good to know we live in such a great place.
There are too many people to thank – but people like Joan Merryfield, Sig Bradshaw & Peg and Dave Rupert, were highly instrumental in bringing the many pieces of our history together so seamlessly. Thank you.
Again, thank you to all the countless others who gave up their time to support the BCCA! We really could not have done it without you!
We’ve come to learn a valuable lesson that the future is shaped by what has worked well in the past, and that a community brings together a multitude of fresh ideas and initiatives that it wishes to undertake. Our job at the BCCA is to take that ‘vision’ and attempt to bring it to fruition. The voice of the community is heard through it’s community association, and we endeavour to bring those ideas forward…
In the next year, and beyond, we are looking forward to:
-continuing to invest in the facilities under our care (hockey rink, the Centre)
-continuing to concentrate on volunteer development and community involvement
-putting forward a green initiative for the Centre so that we can do our part to help the environment.
-continuing to offer the great events you’ve come to expect, like Bragg Creek Days, X mas in the Creek, and many others
-developing new programming to meet community needs
-and, above all else, encouraging a culture of inclusion so that the voices of the whole community are heard and reflected here at the BCCA
I hope that 2008/09 will be even better than the past, and with a new Board in place, I’m sure that there are really great changes on the horizon. Thank you for allowing me to represent the BCCA as it’s president. I will work hard to ensure that we continue to offer the best for our Bragg Creek community.
